A Clear Vision for the Future of the Texas Crime Prevention Association

Tony Valdez (Pres. TGCCPA) & Jeff McGowen (Pres. TCPA & Past Pres. TGCCPA)

On January 12, 2012 Jeffery McGowen was elected president of the Texas Crime Prevention Association of Texas. In a career that spans over nineteen years with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Investigator McGowen has had ample opportunity to observe the effects of crime as he worked in a detention facility, as a patrol officer, in a Crime Prevention Unit (Storefront Community Services), and now as an Internal Affairs investigator. It was during his assignment to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit that Investigator McGowen became a certified Crime Prevention Specialist and saw first-hand, through teaching and training law enforcement officers and citizens throughout the community, the need for a unified effort to address the goals of crime prevention of deterring, detecting, delaying, and denying the efforts of criminals. It is his vision and goal for the TCPA to spread the word that crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility. It takes the combined efforts of business owners, citizens and law enforcement to implement those techniques and strategies designed to make our communities safer and crime free.

As president of TCPA, Jeff is working toward strengthening the training of its members and improving communication between the state board and local regions. Having worked on all levels of the Crime Prevention program, he also is aware of the need to continue to recruit quality crime prevention practitioners. If you have any questions or comments do not hesitate to contact him at president@tcpa.org.

Filling the vacant presidential position of the Texas Gulf Coast Crime Prevention Association generated by Jeff McGowen’s election as TCPA president is officer Tony Valdez, Dickinson Police Department - Community Policing/ Crime Prevention Division. Officer Valdez brings over sixteen years in law enforcement and twelve in Crime Prevention to this position. Heading up one of the largest regional organizations in TCPA, Officer Valdez is committed to recruitment of new members and providing relevant inservice focusing on community based activities. Officer Valdez can be contacted at tvaldez@ci.dickinson.tx.us.
