Texas Crime Prevention Association's 2011 Mid-Winter Conference is January 10-12, 2011 at the Moody Gardens Hotel located at Seven Hope Boulevard, Galveston, Texas 77554. Twenty hours of Crime Prevention Training Workshops are offered to conference attendees. Click on poster for a larger image.A secondary class offered January 8-10, 2011, is the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED, TCLEOSE 2103) course. The Citizen Police Academy

Through the Citizen Police Academies (CPA), police officers can maintain a good relationship with the public by involving citizens in crime prevention efforts. CPAs provide the public with a working knowledge of their law enforcement agency's mission, operation, policies, and personnel.

They also create mutual trust and cooperation between the police and residents. An increasing number of law enforcement agencies have realized the enormous benefits of CPAs to their communities and have incorporated them into their community-oriented policing strategies.

Law enforcement agencies can obtain information regarding CPAs from a variety of sources. However, establishing a successful CPA remains a substantial task. Read more in this article from Police Chief Magazine.

The Missouri City, Texas, Police Department brought the CPA concept to Texas in 1986, eventually extending it to an 11-week course format. Read more...
